Role of Iron in Melon Production

Iron plays a major role in the biochemistry of photosynthesis.

It is a component of certain enzymes required for nitrate and sulfate reduction. Iron is also important in lignin formation and therefore, cell wall structure.

Iron effect at growth stages

Vegetative Growth Ensure good leaf quality and that growth is not limiting
Fruit Fill Promote healthy fruit-fill

General guidelines for Iron application

Applications of iron (e.g. as foliar or through fertigation) can be used to increase early leaf production and crop productivity.

Iron deficiencies in melon

Youngest leaves are yellow in color with mottled interveinal areas. In severe cases of iron deficiency, leaves become pale yellow and almost white. They can turn brown and die.
