Many farmers appreciate fertilizers containing urea for their competitive price tag.

However, urea and UAN are less efficient sources of nitrogen than nitrate fertilizers. One of the biggest disadvantages is ammonia volatilization, which causes significant losses, atmospheric pollution and eutrophication of ecosystems. Why is volatilization such a problem?
