World soybean production

USA and Brazil are the largest soybean producers in the world.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimates production of 281.7 million tons in 2013/14 season, which means an increase of 5.2% over the previous period (267.5 million tons). Into this amount, USA have produced 88.6 million tons, while Brazil expects to harvest 85 million tons.

Thanks to the market situation and to the favorable climate, Brazil ended the 2012/13 season with record harvest, with a 25% increase compared to the previous period.

Brazilian farmers decided to boost the investment in soybean production, taking advantage of the positive scenario because of the crop shortfall in USA, the largest soybeans suppliers.

Even with severe drought, Americans managed to reach 82 million tons in 2012-2013 (84 million tons were produced in 2011-2012 season).

Following the leaders (USA and Brazil) on soybeans production, Argentina, China, India and Paraguay have been composing the ranking of largest soybean producers in the world.

The prices for soybean fluctuates a lot according to the supply/demand situation on the world market.

China has been the overall importer, and has had an increase in consumption of 11.1% between 2013 and 2015.
