World sugar beet production

In 2011 5,069,362 hectares was grown across the world, with the largest area grown in the Russian Federation.

Germany and France have the largest European production areas.

The largest producers in terms of tonnes of production are Russian Federation, France and USA.

The annual global production of sugar beet is about 273 million tons harvested off the 5 million hectares. World production has increased over the last few decades, and is now at 170% of the 1961 figure.

The area harvested has shown a downward trend overtime with the area 73% of its 1961 value.

With the average yield globally being 48 t/ha, this masks the variation between countries which is large going from 6.5 to over 95t/ha.
